Abdulrahman, a 16-year-old Syrian boy, has received humanitarian support from two donors who paid AED 21,000 to cover the costs of the first phase of his treatment. This phase, which lasts for a year, includes medical tests, medications, and continuous follow-ups, as he suffers from growth deficiency and short stature since birth.
Coordination took place between the donors and the Islamic Affairs and Charitable Activities Department in Dubai, through the "Hotline" service, to transfer the donation amount to the patient's account at Sheikh Shakhbout Medical City in Abu Dhabi.
The boy’s father expressed his deep gratitude and heartfelt thanks to the donors, noting that their humanitarian gesture eased his son’s suffering and improved his psychological state. He added that their support brought joy and smiles back to his family and affirmed that this kind act reflects the spirit of charity and social solidarity in the UAE, as individuals and institutions work together to support those in need, particularly patients.
The story of Abdulrahman was previously published in Al Emarat Al Youm and received widespread attention.
The father shared the details of his son’s condition, saying: “Since birth, we noticed his slow development, but it only became apparent when he turned 15.
At that point, it was clear that he was shorter than his peers—his height didn’t exceed 130 centimeters. We took him to Sheikh Shakhbout Medical City, where he underwent a series of tests, and it was confirmed that he needed a year-long course of injections and medication.”
He explained that the health insurance does not cover the cost of the treatment, and the family is going through financial hardship. He is the sole provider for his family of eight members, working in a private company with a monthly salary of AED 6,500, of which AED 2,500 goes toward rent. The remaining amount barely covers food, drink, and clothing for his children.
The father added that he had sought help from several charitable organizations, but received no response. He also attempted to obtain a bank loan, but his application was rejected due to his many existing financial obligations.
He concluded by expressing his sincere appreciation to everyone who extended a helping hand, hoping that the treatment journey will result in noticeable improvement in his son's health.
