A generous donor has covered the cost of a life-saving surgery worth AED 25,000 for Reza, a 70-year-old Iranian patient suffering from complications in his right eye due to the displacement of a previously implanted lens. The urgent surgical procedure was necessary to reposition the lens, but Reza’s limited financial resources prevented him from affording the treatment.
The donation was coordinated between the benefactor and the Islamic Affairs and Charitable Activities Department in Dubai (IACAD) through the "Hotline" initiative, ensuring that the funds were transferred directly to the hospital handling the patient’s care.
Reza expressed his deep gratitude and happiness, saying that the support came at a critical time and would enable him to undergo the required surgery without further delay. He also praised the spirit of compassion and solidarity that characterizes the UAE community, always standing by those in need.
The story of Reza's struggle was first published by Emarat Al Youm on July 1. He shared that he has been living in the UAE for many years and had previously worked in car repair. During his early days on the job, a piece of metal struck his right eye, causing severe damage and bleeding. Emergency doctors managed to stabilize his condition, and he later underwent surgery to implant a lens in the injured eye.
The procedure allowed him to regain partial vision, and he relied on prescription glasses to improve his sight. Over time, his vision gradually improved, but after 25 years, he began to experience intense pain due to the lens slipping out of place and damaging an artery in the eye.
Reza sought medical attention at a specialized eye hospital, where tests confirmed the need for another surgery. However, due to his deteriorating health and inability to work, he could not afford the procedure.
He added that his wife, who works in the private sector and earns AED 6,000 a month, is the sole breadwinner of the family. Her income barely covers rent and daily living expenses, leaving no room to save for the surgery.
