Umm Mohammed found herself surrounded by multiple crises at once: a debilitating illness, a bedridden husband, three children in need of daily care, and a heavy financial case weighing on her shoulders.

Her story reflects the immense pressures that can push a once-stable family to the brink of collapse—until a helping hand extends support at the right moment.

Years ago, Umm Mohammed had taken out a personal loan to meet growing life demands, including living expenses, family obligations, and her children’s educational and medical needs. The loan was not a luxury, but an attempt to secure a dignified life for her family. Over time, however, the burdens accumulated, and she found herself facing a financial claim amounting to AED 818,000.

In 2022, her life took a sharp turn when her employment was terminated after prolonged work-related stress severely affected her health. She was diagnosed with epilepsy, requiring continuous medical follow-up and regular medication.

Between sudden seizures and constant fear of recurrence, she struggled to remain strong for her three children, who saw in her their only source of security.

Soon after, her husband also lost his job and then suffered a heart attack that left him bedridden. Instead of being her support, he required ongoing care and medical attention. At that moment, she felt the walls closing in—an ill husband, children at various stages of education, no stable income, her own unpredictable health condition, and a mounting financial case.

The family currently resides in her father’s home, who opened his doors to them after they were unable to secure independent housing.

Umm Mohammed explained that her only source of income is modest online work, generating a limited amount barely sufficient to cover basic needs such as food, medication, and utility bills. Repaying the debt seemed an impossible dream under such circumstances.

Her case was included under the “Courts of Goodness” initiative at Dubai Courts, where her situation was reviewed and the outstanding amount was rescheduled. A settlement reduced the claim from AED 818,000 to AED 500,000. With the support of donors, she was able to repay AED 300,000, yet AED 200,000 remained—an emotional and financial burden that continued to weigh heavily on her.

She said her greatest fear was not imprisonment as much as the fate of her children in her absence and the deterioration of her husband’s health without her care. Many sleepless nights were spent trying to calculate how she could manage the remaining amount, but the figures always exceeded her capacity.

Through the “Hotline” of Emarat Al Youm, her story reached the community and touched the hearts of donors. With the launch of the seventh season of the “Yak Al Aoun” initiative—adopted by the newspaper in cooperation with Dubai Courts and the Dubai’s Islamic Affairs and Charitable Activities Department—her case was included among the beneficiaries.

After reviewing her humanitarian and social file, a decision was made to settle the remaining AED 200,000 in full under the seventh season of “Yak Al Aoun.” With this, a heavy chapter of suffering was finally closed. She described the moment she was informed of the settlement as a “new birth” for her and her family.

She said the news restored her ability to breathe after years of anxiety and fear, giving her the opportunity to focus on her treatment and on caring for her husband and children.

She emphasized that community initiatives such as “Yak Al Aoun” do more than settle figures in legal files—they restore stability to families on the verge of disintegration and offer new hope. She affirmed that Emirati society is built on values of solidarity and compassion, expressing deep gratitude to everyone who contributed to settling the amount and stood by her during her hardship. She added that she will never forget this support.

Today, Umm Mohammed is trying to quietly reorganize her life, continue her medical treatment regularly, closely monitor her husband’s health, and provide a stable environment for her children, who were deeply affected by the family’s ordeal. She says the experience taught her patience and showed her that relief follows hardship—and that in this nation, a helping hand never delays in reaching those in need.

Her story serves as a reminder that behind every financial case number lies an entire family, and that illness and job loss can overturn a person’s life in a moment. Yet community solidarity has the power to redraw the scene and grant those in distress a renewed chance to begin again.
