In a step that reflects its proactive approach to keeping pace with modern regulatory developments and enhancing the efficiency of the charitable sector, the Dubai Islamic Affairs and Charitable Activities Department (IACAD) organized a specialized awareness workshop for charitable associations and institutions in the Emirate of Dubai. The workshop was attended by employees from the charitable sector and representatives of relevant government entities.
The workshop was delivered by Mr. Abdullah Bin Dimas, Director of Enforcement at the Virtual Assets Regulatory Authority (VARA). It provided a comprehensive knowledge platform to introduce the integrated regulatory framework governing virtual asset activities and digital currencies in the Emirate, contributing to raising institutional awareness among charitable associations and institutions and enabling them to engage with such activities in an informed and responsible manner in line with approved legislation.
The workshop addressed the role of virtual asset service providers in complying with regulatory requirements and the mechanisms for regulating dealings in digital currencies, thereby strengthening the principles of transparency, reinforcing operational governance, and protecting the charitable sector from potential risks. It also included a discussion of the department’s public policy on monitoring fundraising activities related to cryptocurrencies and virtual assets. Feedback and inquiries from representatives of charitable associations and institutions were heard and addressed, enhancing policy clarity and sound implementation.
In a statement, the Acting Executive Director of the Charitable Work Sector, Mr. Abdullah Al-Khabe Al-Shahi, affirmed that organizing this workshop embodies IACAD’s commitment to building a charitable sector that adheres to the highest standards of governance and compliance. He noted that enhancing awareness of legislation regulating virtual assets is a fundamental pillar for ensuring the sustainability of charitable work, safeguarding its reputation, and maximizing its humanitarian impact, in alignment with the department’s strategic plans and the directives and vision of the UAE’s wise leadership to establish a leading and secure regulatory environment.
The organization of this workshop further underscores IACAD’s approach to strengthening institutional integration with relevant regulatory authorities and developing the capabilities of charitable associations and institutions to keep pace with emerging developments. This supports Dubai’s leadership as a global model in the governance and regulation of charitable work in accordance with modern changes and clear, responsible regulatory frameworks.
