The Islamic Affairs and Charitable Activities Department in Dubai will observe the crescent moon of Shawwal this evening, Wednesday, corresponding to 29 Ramadan 1447 AH, as part of its approved moon-sighting system at the Jebel Nizwa Crescent Observation Site, in coordination with the UAE Council for Fatwa. This comes within its institutional role in supporting the accurate determination of Hijri months in accordance with Islamic guidelines and scientific standards.
The sighting process is part of an integrated system adopted by the department throughout the year for moon observation, enhancing the reliability of procedures related to announcing religious occasions—most notably determining the first day of Shawwal and the declaration of Eid al-Fitr. This is carried out through a methodology that combines field observation with modern astronomical data, in line with officially approved Sharia frameworks across the UAE.
Through these efforts, the department continues to reinforce a comprehensive institutional model in religious work based on accuracy and reliability, reflecting its commitment to best practices in moon sighting. This approach strengthens public confidence and aligns with Dubai’s vision of leadership and innovation across various sectors.
