The Islamic Affairs and Charitable Activities Department in Dubai announced the successful sighting of the crescent moon marking the beginning of Jumada al-Awwal 1446 AH. This achievement is part of IACAD’s astronomical efforts to monitor community astronomical phenomena related to the preparation of the annual lunar calendar.
The committee observed the crescent of Jumada al-Awwal using telescopes and binoculars in clear weather at the Jebel Nizwa reserve in Dubai after sunset on the 30th of Rabi’ al-Thani 1446 AH. The crescent was born after the astronomical conjunction on Friday, November 1, 2024, which means that Saturday, November 2, will complete the month of Rabi’ al-Thani. Therefore, Sunday, November 3, will be the first day of Jumada al-Awwal 1446 AH, according to these astronomical calculations.
The Islamic Affairs and Charitable Activities Department in Dubai reiterated its ongoing commitment to participating in monthly crescent observation operations through accredited astronomical observatories in the country. This ensures the alignment of calendars and schedules with astronomical phenomena, providing accurate and reliable information that is essential for various religious and social aspects.
