A generous donor has brought hope back to the family of "Umm Adnan" (a 42-year-old divorced mother) by settling AED 11,000 in outstanding school fees for her three children, enabling them to return to school after being forced to drop out due to severe financial hardship.
The humanitarian gesture followed the publication of the family's story in Emarat Al Youm, which highlighted the plight of Umm Adnan's children — Adnan, Jude, and Mai — who were unable to enroll in the 2025–2026 academic year due to unpaid tuition fees and the family's inability to afford them after the father left the country.
The donation was coordinated with the Islamic Affairs and Charitable Activities Department in Dubai, which facilitated the transfer of the amount to the school’s account, ensuring the children could resume their studies.
Umm Adnan shared her ordeal, explaining that her ex-husband previously worked in the private sector, earning a monthly salary of AED 10,000, which allowed the family to live comfortably. However, their lives turned upside down in March of last year when he lost his job after the company closed due to heavy financial losses. This led to mounting debts and family disputes, ultimately resulting in divorce.
She added that the father then left the country, leaving her solely responsible for raising their five children: Adnan (13), Jude (12), Mai (11), Ahmed (4), and Zahra (2). She has since relied on small amounts of income from doing odd jobs for neighbors and friends to cover their basic needs.
Umm Adnan recalled receiving a notice from the school requiring payment of the overdue fees, or her children would be unable to continue their education — a situation she struggled to explain to her young children. Their sadness deepened as they watched their friends and neighbors board the school bus each morning, while they stayed behind.
She expressed her deep gratitude to the donor, saying the support brought joy back to her children's hearts and gave them a renewed opportunity to continue their education. She also praised the humanitarian role played by the newspaper and charitable institutions in supporting struggling families.
