A donor has contributed 19,000 AED to renew the health insurance for "Um Nasreen" (73 years old) from Palestine, who suffers from multiple chronic conditions, including high blood pressure, diabetes, and heart problems. She also underwent urgent surgery that involved a heart catheterization and stent placement. However, she has experienced repeated strokes that left her bedridden. Her daughter, the sole breadwinner of the family, has struggled to cover even a portion of the treatment costs.
The donation was coordinated between the donor, the Islamic Affairs and Charitable Activities Department in Dubai, and the "Hotline," and the amount was transferred to the patient's account at Sheikh Shakhbout Medical City in Abu Dhabi.
Um Nasreen's daughter expressed her heartfelt gratitude to the donor, emphasizing that this humanitarian gesture reflects the spirit of generosity that characterizes the people of the UAE, who never hesitate to offer support and assistance to those in need.
In an interview with Emirates Today, the daughter shared the details of her mother’s struggle, saying: "In October, when my mother was about to sleep, she felt severe chest pain, shortness of breath, heart palpitations, and numbness in her limbs, which caused her to collapse. We immediately rushed her to Sheikh Shakhbout Medical City, where she underwent the necessary tests. It was found that she needed heart catheterization due to a blockage in the main artery. She stayed in the ICU for three days and then was transferred to a regular room for ten days to recover."
She added, "The doctor advised us to follow a healthy diet and stick to the prescribed medication to avoid complications that could threaten her life."
The daughter also explained that her mother's health insurance had covered part of her treatment costs in the past years, but the insurance card expired in December, and it was necessary to renew it for 19,000 AED. She mentioned that her financial situation made it impossible to cover this amount. She is the sole provider for her family, which consists of four children at different educational levels, and her husband has been unemployed since 2020. She also mentioned that her monthly salary of 9,000 AED barely covers the rent and school fees, leaving little for daily living expenses.
