Donor Pays AED 14,000 for Medications of "Fatoun" in Coordination with IACAD and the "Hotline"

Donor Pays AED 14,000 for Medications of "Fatoun" in Coordination with IACAD and the "Hotline"

A donor has paid AED 14,000 to cover the medication costs for Fatoun, who is battling breast cancer. Fatoun underwent urgent surgery to remove her right breast in December 2018, followed by chemotherapy and radiation treatments. Through the efforts of the "Hotline" service, coordination was made between the donor and the Islamic Affairs and Charitable Activities Department in Dubai to transfer the amount to the patient, which will be used at Sheikh Shakhbout Medical City in Abu Dhabi.

Earlier, Emirates Today published a story on the 19th of this month about Fatoun’s struggle with the disease and her inability to afford the necessary medications due to her difficult financial situation. Fatoun expressed her happiness and gratitude for the donation, thanking the donor for standing by her and appreciating the support from the people of the UAE in assisting humanitarian cases.

In her statement, Fatoun explained that her ordeal began in December 2018 when she experienced severe pain and swelling in her right breast, prompting her to undergo several tests at a private hospital, which revealed she had breast cancer. She underwent a full mastectomy and spent 35 days in the hospital receiving treatment, all of which were covered by her health insurance. She then continued chemotherapy and radiation as advised by her doctor.

Fatoun added that in July of this year, she began experiencing severe pain in her throat and neck, along with difficulty swallowing. She sought emergency care at Sheikh Shakhbout Medical City, where tests showed that her condition required continued medication and regular check-ups, with a cost of 14,000 AED, which exceeded the coverage provided by her insurance. She explained that her family’s financial situation made it impossible to pay the amount, as her husband is the sole breadwinner for their family of four children and works in the private sector with a salary of 9,500 AED, which barely covers their basic living expenses.

Fatoun emphasized that the support she received from the donor is not surprising, as the people of the UAE are well-known for their ongoing generosity and love for helping those in need.
