A donor paid AED 21,045 to cover the treatment costs of three-year-old Rawan, who was injured in her left eye by a sharp object last October, requiring urgent surgery to save her sight. The child had already undergone surgery to save her vision. Coordination was made between the donor, the Islamic Affairs and Charitable Activities Department in Dubai, and the "Hotline" to transfer the amount to the child's account at Sheikh Shakhbout Medical City Hospital in Abu Dhabi.
The child's father expressed his deep gratitude to the donor, noting that this kind gesture is not surprising coming from the people of the UAE, who are known for their generosity and giving, especially in difficult circumstances.
In detail, the father told "Emirates Today" that his daughter was playing with her siblings after lunch on a Friday when her brother accidentally threw a sharp object that struck her left eye. He added that he immediately took her to the emergency department at Sheikh Shakhbout Medical City Hospital, where necessary medical tests, including a CT scan around the eye, were conducted to assess the damage. The doctor informed him that the outer tissues of the eye had torn and that urgent surgery was necessary to prevent vision loss.
The father explained that the surgery lasted two hours, and the prompt intervention helped minimize the damage and protect the eye from complications. The doctors also recommended regular weekly follow-up visits to the hospital.
He added that the child now requires another operation to remove the surgical stitches from her eye, which costs AED 21,045, an amount now covered by donations. He pointed out that his difficult financial situation, working in the private sector with a salary of AED 3,000 and supporting a family of five, made it hard for him to afford the surgical costs.
