Donor Covers AED 20,000 Surgery Cost for “Umm Hazem” in Coordination with Dubai’s Islamic Affairs and the “Hotline”

In a noble humanitarian gesture, a generous donor contributed AED 20,000 to cover the cost of an urgent hysterectomy surgery to save the life of Umm Hazem, a 58-year-old Sudanese woman. She has been suffering from fibroids and uterine prolapse, which caused severe abdominal pain and heavy bleeding, posing a serious threat to her life.

The donation followed a report published by Emarat Al Youm newspaper on April 16, highlighting her critical medical condition and her family’s inability to afford the AED 19,560 required for the surgery. The donation was coordinated between the donor and the Islamic Affairs and Charitable Activities Department in Dubai via the Hotline, with the amount transferred to the account of Sheikh Khalifa Specialty Hospital in Ajman, where the procedure is being conducted.

Umm Hazem expressed her deep gratitude and immense joy upon receiving the support, saying that the donor’s act reflects the generosity and noble spirit of the Emirati people, who always extend a helping hand to those in need—especially in her difficult financial situation that made it impossible to afford treatment.

She recounted her experience with the illness, explaining that it began months ago with sudden pain and heavy bleeding, prompting her to visit the emergency department at a hospital in Ajman. Medical tests and imaging revealed the presence of uterine tumors, with the possibility of them being malignant. Doctors recommended urgent surgery to remove the uterus to prevent her condition from worsening.

Umm Hazem said her greatest fear was not the illness itself, but her inability to afford the surgery. Her health insurance does not cover such procedures, and her family depends solely on her son, who earns a modest salary of AED 6,000, most of which goes toward rent and loan payments.
