A generous donor has covered the AED 9,132 cost of renewing the health insurance card for 75-year-old Iraqi patient "Abu Jihad", in coordination with Emarat Al Youm's "Hotline" service and the Islamic Affairs and Charitable Activities Department in Dubai. The donation was transferred directly to the health insurance company's account in Abu Dhabi.
"Abu Jihad" expressed his deep gratitude and happiness for this humanitarian gesture, stating that the renewed health insurance will allow him to continue receiving critical medical treatment for his deteriorating health. He suffers from kidney failure and undergoes regular dialysis sessions at Sheikh Shakhbout Medical City in Abu Dhabi.
The patient had earlier appealed through the Hotline for financial support, explaining that his limited income prevented him from affording the insurance renewal. The expiration of his card had cut off access to essential medication for his multiple chronic conditions, which include heart disease, diabetes, hypertension, and asthma. His situation worsened, especially as he now relies on a breathing machine several times a day.
"Abu Jihad" noted that he is the sole provider for his family. He previously worked as a farmer, but his declining health forced him to stop. His only source of income now is the support he receives from friends and charitable individuals.
Commenting on the donation, he said:
“When I received the call from the Hotline team informing me that the insurance cost had been covered, I felt I was living in a country that never abandons anyone. This kind gesture is a testament to the strong social solidarity that distinguishes the UAE community.” ________________________________________
