Launch of the Imam al-Freij Initiative

Based on the instructions of His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, Deputy Prime Minister, and Minister of Defense, to the Islamic Affairs & Charitable Activities Department in Dubai, to launch the "Imam al-Freij" initiative. This initiative aims to train young individuals to lead congregational prayers, following the significant community success of the "muezzin al-Freij" initiative in its first season. In a move that reflects the extensive efforts to promote Islamic and cultural values within the community, the Department has launched the "Imam al-Freij" initiative. This initiative will be implemented in 70 mosques across the Emirate of Dubai, targeting children and youth in Dubai's neighborhoods between the ages of (6-21) years old, for a period of 4 months.

The Islamic Affairs and Charitable Activities Department in Dubai launches the "Imam al-Freij" initiative.

His Excellency Ahmed Darwish Al-Muhairi, Director General of the Department, confirmed that the "Imam al-Freij" initiative has been launched in alignment with the "Dubai Social Agenda 33." The aim of this initiative is to build stable families, prepare confident generations who are firmly attached to their identity, and equip them for the future.His Excellency said: "Following the tremendous success of the 'muezzin al-Freij' initiative, we decided to continue this journey by launching 'Imam al-Freij' to meet the community's aspirations. This initiative will focus on training the youth of the neighborhoods to lead congregational prayers in Dubai's mosques. Its goal is to foster a strong connection between families and mosques, contribute to the awareness and education of Dubai's community, and enhance religious awareness, particularly within families. The initiative aims to engage the youth of Dubai's neighborhoods to become the imams of their communities." His Excellency emphasized the Islamic Affairs & Charitable Activities Department in Dubai's commitment to participating in purposeful community initiatives, especially those that reflect the teachings, principles, and values of our noble religion and tolerant Islamic law. The goal is to achieve a leading position and an Islamic approach, aiming to be globally distinguished in both Islamic and charitable fields.

Dr. Mohammed Suhail Al-Muhairi - Head of the "Imam al-Freij" Initiative Team

Dr. Mohammed Suhail Al-Muhairi, Director of Religious Services at the Mosques and Head of the "Imam al-Freij" Initiative Team, stated that 70 mosques across the Emirate of Dubai have been approved to begin receiving those interested in participating in the initiative. He also noted that there are specific requirements for participation, including registration through supervisors in the said mosque and a minimum attendance rate of 70% for participants. Al-Muhairi pointed out that a course will be held for the participants, with educational sessions scheduled three days a week for two age groups. The sessions for ages (6 to 14) will be held (remotely) on Sundays, and in-person on Tuesdays and Thursdays from after Asr prayer until Maghrib prayer. For the ages (15 to 21), the sessions will take place in person on Mondays and Wednesdays, and (remotely) on Fridays, from after Asr prayer until Maghrib prayer. The course will include instruction in fiqh related to leading prayers and prayer etiquette, as well as memorization of the Quran. Additionally, participants will be evaluated by committees in September.

Statistics of the Imam al-Freij

In line with the directives of His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, Deputy Prime Minister, and Minister of Defence, to the Islamic Affairs & Charitable Activities Department in Dubai to launch the " Imam al-Freij" initiative. This initiative, which aligns with the Dubai Social Agenda 33, aims to prepare young individuals to lead congregational prayers. The initiative reflects the extensive efforts to promote Islamic and cultural values within the community, targeting the children and youth of Dubai's neighborhoods, aged between 6 and 21 years, across more than 80 mosques in the Emirate of Dubai. The number of participants from both age groups has exceeded 2,250 students, supported by 91 qualified instructors in 180 study circles. After more than 65 days since the initiative's launch, the evaluation phase for the participants is set to begin, lasting for a month from August 15 to September 15.
